For us, homebrewing is more than a hobby.
For us, homebrewing is more than a hobby.
We've been homebrewing for more than two years. In this time, we've experimented with more than 40 beers, some our original recipes and some variations on our favorites.
We've picked a few of our creations to be our signature brews, including a few seasonal specialties.
Cameron grew up in the Southwest, living in Phoenix and going to school in LA, where he first got into the craft beer scene drinking Sierra Nevada, Stone, Green Flash, and all the myriad West Coast brews. He made the trek to Virginia in 2010 for grad school in UVA's Astronomy department, and started homebrewing after his first year. Two years later, after earning his Master's degree, he decided to leave school to pursue brewing full-time. Cameron now works at Three Notch'd Brewing Co. in Charlottesville, managing quality control. For now, this means cleaning draft lines around town and setting up a lab for yeast management and QC (and, of course, rigorously testing the quality of Three Notch'd beer around town). He also works the taproom a couple of nights a week. Cameron has a special interest in the science of brewing, and loves the no-rules attitude of the craft brewing scene and the many new beer styles it has given rise to. His favorite beer style is probably American IPA, but he's also a sucker for a well-executed Kolsch.
Sean is a son of Virginia, though a grandson of the beer-loving state of Michigan, where he has often returned to enjoy drinks from breweries large and small. He has a particular fondness for Bell's in Kalamazoo and the nano-breweries of Ann Arbor. Born in Fredericksburg, he moved to Charlottesville, VA to attend UVA, where he earned a degree in physics and mathematics.
It was here that Sean first developed a taste for beer, and later a taste for good beer. That taste became a passion, and in 2011 he started crafting his own. Sean works in data mining, data visualization and statistical analysis. In his remaining free time he dabbles in wood and metalworking. Sean is unreasonably partial to hops, especially of the floral variety, but has also been known to enjoy less-hoppy beers such as the brown ales of Legend and Samuel Smith.
